Collaboration is such an important factor in our project process. We’re blessed to work with an incredible network of collaborators here at Root.
Since June we’ve been working with May Viratikul, a talented UX Designer and Researcher and recent Manchester Metropolitan University graduate. May initially began working with Root in order to gain paid work experience and insights into low-carbon web development after meeting Paul at a Sustainable Web Design lecture he ran at the university.
During the last few months May has helped us across several internal and live client projects at all of the important development stages. During a very busy period here at the studio she has supported with wireframing a large scale website project, giving all important feedback on website designs, completed website reviews and quality testing as well as helped plan out website changes for clients.
May has proved to be such an important collaborator for the studio. She’s a keen learner and can always apply her constructive skills to our live projects. This is key to improving on the web design services that we provide, as it challenges Paul and myself with views and opinions that we might not have considered had it just been the two of us tackling a project.
Hopefully, May is gaining valuable skills that aren’t necessarily always gained at degree level in University. Skills like project management, building client relationships and prioritising tasks for tight timescales are all things that we as studio owners have to deploy on a day-to-day basis. May has been really accepting and willing to learn these skills from us whilst we apply them to live client projects.
We’re excited to keep working with May on future projects!
“Working with root has been a chance for me to learn more about sustainable web design and development, and gain experience working across various projects, from local small businesses to national charities. I got to use my skills in design and prototyping, and develop new skills, both technically in web development and adapting my workflow to root’s dynamic. Paul and Chris have been extremely kind and supportive to work with, beyond grateful for the opportunity!”
